About

I loved teaching art in schools and college and still tutor now. But it became increasingly obvious that I too had to explore where my art journey would lead me. I hadn’t been consistently painting since art college — so where to start?

Wherever I could find Fairs in my home county of Yorkshire, I sold cards and  small wood panels of flowers and gardens. Somebody from Burton Agnes then invited me to be Artist in Residence and the size of my work grew. Art Nouveau and Art Deco were strong influences and my artwork was decorative and intricate. I stayed there for 8 years selling well to people visiting the gardens especially when I worked en plein air! It was fun and I gained confidence.

Come 2020 and my work took an abrupt change. I needed to explore more varied media – after all I had been an art teacher! I joined art societies and started to learn from other artists increasing the size of my canvases and experimenting.

Something in the distance that leads the eye through.

Work is still based on my connections to the Wolds, Moors, sun drenched places, gaudy flowers and gardens but I’ve become interested in glimpses of spaces seen through buildings, windows, gates, trees, paths and hills. And that’s the work you’ll see on my website. Something in the distance that leads the eye through. View my paintings and you’ll see for yourself.

Why do I paint? Well in the words of an artist friend it just makes me happy!

And I am still on my art journey…
